TVS axes Scooty Teenz Electric
TVS Motor Company recently announced that it plans to put its electric vehicles production on hold because of low market demand. The firm has introduced the Scooty Teenz Electric back in April 2008 with an ex-showroom price of Rs 29,900 and hoped to sell close to 40,000 units per annum. But the battery powered scooter received lukewarm response and TVS had to stop its production in May 2009.
While speaking to the media recently TVS Motor Co Marketing President H S Goindi said that the market is not good for electric two-wheelers in India and so the firm is concentrating on its regular scooters and motorcycles. To strengthen its grasp of the entry level bikes TVS will be launching Max 100 early next month. The new bike is expected to be a no frills, low cost four-stroke bike that is aimed at getting volumes for the company.

TVS to Launch Max 4R
As per a report by leading auto magazine Autocar India, TVS India is set to rev up competition in the hinterland bike markets! And it will bring back one of its strong brands - Max R, to fight competition from Hero Honda and Bajaj. The TVS Max was discontinued about 3 years ago as its 2-stroke engine did not meet the then stringent emission norms. But now it's all set to make a comeback in a 4-stroke version.
Speaking to Autocar, a top official said that the Max 4R will be launched in May this year to address the market for rugged load carriers. TVS already has entry level models like Star and Sport but there's still a void in terms of rugged bikes which can withstand heavy overloading, something that is quite common in the rural markets. The new Max 4R will be run by a 110 cc engine, borrowed from its recently unveiled sibling, the Jive. The expected price tag for the bike is Rs. 35,000. And the Max will wrestle with the likes of Hero Honda's CD Dawn and Bajaj's Platina.
