Honda CBF Stunner Gets Leovince SBK exhaust system

Much relief to the riders of motorbikes, the Honda CBF Stunner will be herein after fitted with Leovince SBK exhaust system. The bike, as of now, is deprived of its Shine -drive despite the sharp cowl and less tuned engine. The arrival of this exhaust is a breathing break for the riders of this Stunner. Leovince, from UK, offers this exhaust system for this Stunner, and it provides 10% torque increase,10% power increase, Weight saving, 'Superb' sound. The imminent increase in the power output is 10.8 - 11.7 bhp@ 3500 rpm and 5200 rpm, a gain of torque upto 40%.

Hybrid Motorcycle gets supercharged

Australian motorcycle designer, Tim Cameron has unveiled his new one-of-a-kind supercharged Petrol-electric hybrid motorcycle! Tim Cameron has a simple question - Motorcycles are already an economical transport 'alternative' but what if you could buy something that could not only out-perform everything else on the road, but at the same time got double or even triple the mpg of existing machines while putting out less emissions?

This question probably powered him to design the CAF-E hybrid motorcycle concept. The CAF-E is a petrol-electric hybrid, powered by a parallel-twin engine with twin superchargers and an electric motor that's fed by a lithium-ion battery pack! According to the designer the bike is a 'parallel hybrid' as the petrol engine and the electric motor work together to produce power.

Cameron reveals that the secret to this arrangement is the transmission which is based around Toyota's Synergy Drive. The Synergy Drive is a computer-controlled gear arrangement that combines the output of both power plants seamlessly according to load and conditions. He further adds that it is very compact and ideal for motorcycle application as it is a stepless CVT type of transmission.

Cameron doesn't think the CAF-E would be very expensive to produce as the hybrid technology showcased in the CAF-E has already been proven in the car world. He expects the bike to retail for the same amount as 'upper-range Harley money' if it gets produced.

As Toyota, Honda and General Motors have already shelled out huge amounts of money to develop the technology while he just adapted it over to two wheels. Tim Cameron is an Australian motorcycle designer who had earlier designed the Travertson V-Rex and VR-2.

Bajaj Gets ExhausTEC patent

The Indian Patent Office granted the patent to Bajaj Auto for its "ExhausTEC" invention vide Patent no 231498 dated 5th March 2009. This Grant was published in Patent Gazette dated 27 March 2009. Bajaj was warring for this patent with its competitor TVS Motor.

The press release signed by Vice-President, Business Development, Mr. S. Ravikumar, issued on Wednesday states that the Pune based Bajaj Auto has been awarded the Patent no 231498, dated March 5, 2009 by the Indian Patent office. The patent was published in the 27 March edition of the government of India's Patent Gazette.

The patent may spell trouble for TVS Motors as it has been using the same technology in some of its vehicles Now, Apache brand of motorcycles from TVS Motor are under question because TVS has used 'ExhausTEC' in these bikes as well. However, TVS Motors denies the claim that that patent affects its business.

"The patent granted to Bajaj Auto is for ExhausTEC, which is a chamber fitted on the exhaust pipe. It has nothing to do with DTSi twin spark technology. They are two separate patents and are not linked to each other," the company said in a release here on Friday.

Contending that there is no correlation between 'DTSi twin spark' technology and 'ExhausTEC,' TVS Motor sought to point out that they are two independent technologies with separate patents and these technologies are not used by TVS Motor Company in any of its products.

Bajaj Gets Patent For ExhausTEC

Bajaj has received a patent for a new technology, which has been a bone of contention with rival TVS Motor Co. Earlier, BAL had applied for patent of this technology in 2004. Later, TVS unveiled a series of new products, which Bajaj alleged of patent infringement of its ExhausTEC technology and served notice to the Chennai-based firm in December, 2007.

"The Indian Patent Office granted Bajaj Auto a patent for its 'ExhausTEC' invention vide Patent No 231498 dated March 5, 2009. This grant was published in Patent Gazette, dated March 27, 2009," Bajaj Auto Ltd (BAL) Vice-President (Business Development) S Ravikumar said.

Bajaj Auto claimed that ExhausTEC significantly improves low- and mid-range torque (tendency of a force to rotate an object about an axis) in a single cylinder four stroke engine, employing a chamber of predetermined volume attached to the exhaust pipe.

The extended warranty comes as an extra bonus to lure the customers to buy Bajaj vehicles. "For a loan of 36 months tenor the free extended warranty offered by Bajaj Auto Finance extends for the entire 36 months. The customer therefore needs to only ensure timely payment of EMI's while Bajaj Auto Finance largely takes care of the cost of vehicle maintenance," said K Srinivas, Vice President (Retail Finance).
