Bajaj, one of the fastest growing manufacturers, has left the motorcycle industry awestruck. It has produced a record no of 1,00,000 vehicles in just a month at the Pantnagar plant. Bajaj has definitely added another feather in its cap by achieving this remarkable production level. A company official said that the production at Pantnagar plant was almost double than compared to the other plants of the company.

Bajaj India is looking to improve the level of production facility at Pantnagar by investing another 75 crores. When asked to the officials about the expansion program they said that the program is already underway and will complete as soon as January 2011. Due to boom in the motorcycle market, Bajaj is planning to ramp up its production level from 1.2 million units per annum to 1.8 million units per annum. As per the company reports the expansion was due to be completed in October 2010 itself but it could not be so done because of heavy rains.

Even last year Bajaj carried out similar expansion plans wherein they scaled the production from six to twelve lakhs p.a. Officials also said that the possibilities of introducing new models always remain given the expansion plan works out just fine. The company is currently producing two of its variants from the Pantnagar plant viz. Platina and Discover. Bajaj started the production in 2007 at Pantnagar and availed tax rebated available to the industries operating in SEZ. The company had initially invested 230 crores at Pantnagar facility and thus they are keen to utilize the facility to 100% level. We can only wish Bajaj all the very best. If they go at the same pace, soon there will be no place for other competitors on Indian roads unless others come up with something unique.

To bash the Indian roads with Japanese technology Kawasaki and Bajaj Bikes together organised a rally in Pune. The main purpose behind the rally was to celebrate Kawasaki Ninja on Indian roads. 1000 Ninja's were commemorated in the Rally, and the event was honoured by the owners of the Ninja 250R. The rally was organised at Hotel Le Meridian. Along with the big move for Ninja, the company also made a crucial announcement of operations of “India Kawasaki Motors Pvt. Ltd.” which is a fully owned subsidiary of Kawasaki.

As we all know the official announcement of Kawasaki Ninja 250R was made in the month of October last year. With this one successful year in India, Kawasaki marked the sales of the 1000th Kawasaki Ninja 250R in India. The company has a tie up with Bajaj Auto to handle the retailing of its product in India with 32 showrooms across 30 cities.

The officials of Bajaj Auto Limited stated that they will take full responsibility of the bike sales and services without discriminating on the basis of location of owners in India. Talking about the production capacity of Bajaj Auto Ltd, it is capable of producing 100 bikes a month at the plant situated in Chakan. Kawasaki is also looking forward for other ranges of bike in Indian markets. The reason behind is the huge success of Kawasaki Ninja .

Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Tanigawa, MD, IKM, said, The launch of Kawasaki Ninja 250R has been a great success and the sales of the bikes has exceeded our expectations. The product appeal coupled with great after sales service support from Bajaj Probiking has propelled the sales of the Kawasaki Ninja 250R. We will continue our efforts in further strengthening the Ninja brand in India.

In terms of design and styling it was expected that Discover 150 will carry all or some of the design cues we have seen in the Discover Sprint concept which was on display at the 2008 Auto Expo in New Delhi. But bajaj has disappointed the bike lovers as they have kept the design very simple and basic which looks more or less same like the Discover 100. Bajaj Discover 150 will be powered by a 150cc engine which generates maximum power of around 13 Bhp at 7500 rpm with maximum torque of around 12.7 Nm at 5500 rpm.

The company's first step in that direction would be a new 150 cc motorcycle that's meant for the commuter.

The Bajaj Discover 150 would be priced and positioned below Pulsar 150 cc and is likely to cost around Rs 50,000. There will be key differentiators, like the engine will be tuned for better fuel efficiency and the styling adopted will be in favor of the commuter class, to keep the similarly priced Pulsar 135 away from extinction. The DTSi engined Discover, according to sources will be launched in the next 45 days to boost volume of Discover from 80,000 units to 150,000 units a month.

Bajaj India is planing a restructuring exercise which will see independent brands from the 2-wheeler manufacturer. The company will distance itself from the parent brand and focus on just four motorcycle brands - Boxer, Discover, Pulsar and KTM, as well as the rear-engine three-wheeler brand, phasing out the rest. Bajaj has already stopped making bikes such as the XCD 125 and 135, Wind and Caliber. Others like the CT100 will be made for some export markets, but these models will migrate to the Boxer brand vertical in a year. The company has no plans to wind down the entry-level Platina, but there will be no more investments. The new strategy will also help Bajaj stand out from arch rival Hero Honda.

"The Bajaj brand is very diffused, covering everything from heaters and hair oil to insurance and financial services. Correcting that problem is the biggest opportunity for the company," said Mr Bajaj. "We have to be clear about what our brand stands for. A sporty Pulsar and the humble auto rickshaw are as different as chalk and cheese," he added.
