Honda Motors Company has sold 21 super bikes in India so far at a price of Rs. 12.5 lakh and Rs. 9.5 lakh within three months of the launch of the company. "We have been able to sell 21 of our super speed bikes within three months of their launch into the country," said HMSI Head Sales Y S Guleria. We have seen the potential of these bikes in big cities like Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi and Pune and we aim to sell 100 units of these bikes in this fiscal," he added.

The company had launched two super-bikes CBR1000RR and CB1000R, which are geared towards the high-end customers interested in super-bikes. Further, Guleria also stated that the company now intends to enter the 100cc segment to cater to the popular segment demands and to generate volumes for the company. He did not divulge the price bracket for the new upcoming 100cc bikes coming from the Honda stable.

Compared with the 93,300 bikes it produced last year, KTM plans to only produce around 70,000 motorcycle this year. The company had recently laid off around 300 of its employees and now plans to run shorter production shifts, because of which another 700 of its employees may have to take pay cuts.

However, KTM continues to invest in R&D and, along with Bajaj Auto, is working on a 125cc street bike which it aims to unveil at the EICMA show in Italy, in November this year. This bike will also be shown at the 10th Auto Expo in Delhi in January 2010 and could go on sale in Europe and India simultaneously, during the first quarter of 2010.

KTM is also working on developing various other kind of vehicles that are aimed at sustainable mobility in the future. Among others, these vehicles include a battery-powered off-road bike and a small car, which could be similar in concept to the Tata Nano.

The Indian team along with five other participating teams from the South East Asian countries was present in Thailand to compete in the Novice as well as the Experts class.The ASEAN Cup is a platform for upcoming racers from every country to compete against each other in a healthy way. Every rider gets a bike through a draw ensuring fair competition.

The racer along with his pit crew then gets the opportunity to set up the bike according to his requirement. This can include changing gear ratios, tuning carburetors and adjusting the riding posture, etc. The bikes provided for the Novice class were Yamaha T110s while the ones provided for the Expert class racers were the Yamaha T135s.

A set of sprockets and jets was also provided with each bike. With an extra pair of tyres, the rider had an option to shift to brand new rubber for the race day. Going for practice sessions, coming back in the pits, providing the mechanics with appropriate data to set up the bike and then going out on the track again to see how the new setup works was the agenda for the first day.

Though this was the case with most of the participating teams, for Team India it was more about getting used to the new type of motorcycles and the tight racetrack - something that the Indian racers have never experienced before.

Knee-scrapping on the underbones on the bumpy track was something the Indian racers started doing within an hour of practice. However, with such a limited time on the machines, it wasn't possible for Team India to exploit the full capabilities of the bikes.

Bajaj today officially said it will launch a new sport motorcycle in December, the third of four products off the XCD platform. Recently Bajaj launched the 125cc platina and last year it launched the XCD. XCD sprint is powered by a 4 valve, DTSi engine developing 12.5PS of peak power and 10.3Nm of peak torque at 6500rpm. 5 speed tranmission transmits power to the rear wheel. Gas charged suspension at the rear, LED tail lamps and LCD console are other distinct features of XCD sprint.

The CBF125 will be available in four colours - Sports Red, Black, Space Silver metallic. CBF is expected to go on sale for around £2500.
