TVS To Expand Hosur Plant For Wego

The South Indian auto giant and India’s second largest two-wheeler maker, TVS Motor company is facing high demand for its scooter TVS Wego in domestic market. So, the company is planning to expand its manufacturing plan at Hosur in Tamil Nadu to meet the huge demand. TVS Wego was introduced in Indian market last year.

Now backed by huge demand, the Hosur-headquartered company plans to increase its capacity at its plant for manufacture of Wego, TVS Motor Company President (Marketing and Sales) H S Goindi said. “Tamil Nadu is the largest market for us. We plan to launch Wego in Tamil Nadu market by January or February 2011,” he told PTI. Currently, Wego is not available in Tamil Nadu and some eastern regions in the country. “The capacity will be improved at the Hosur plant particularly for Wego..”, he said, declining to elaborate on the proposed investments for rising the capacity.

Good times at TVS

Two-wheeler vehicles manufacturers in the country are busy catering the vertical rise in demand for their products. Just yeterday we reported that TVS motors has had a twenty sevan percent rise in sales figures in november over the same time last year. Looks like its the same recipe in every kitchen. India biggest two-wheeler manufacturer Hero Honda has reported a 10.5% increase in sales for november. They say it is difficult to acheive a  huge improvement when you are at the top but Hero Honda has shown how its done. Their sales figure stand at 4,21,366 vehicles as opposed to 3,81,378 vehicles last novemeber, an increase of almost 40,000 vehicles!

Suzuki's indian subsidary has seen an even bigger growth of seventy seven percent due to the success of their latest small bike, Suzuki Slingshot. The highest rise in sales however, has been recorded by Mahindra two-wheelers who recently launched their small bike Stallio in the market. Mahindra two wheelers has reported a mindblowing 125% increase in sales after they sold 15,854 units against a tiny figure of just 1706 units last year.

TVS Showcases Velocity 160 Street Fighter

TVS recently displayed the Velocity 160 Street Fighter concept at the Jakarta Motorcycle Show. It is basically a modified version of the Apache RTR 160, it also looks somewhat similar to the Yamaha FZ16 especially from the front. This street-fighter avatar of the Apache RTR 160 has huge front petal disc brakes, upside down forks, a non-faired front, wide tyres and wait for it, a rear mono-shock as the hallmarks of its design. The Velocity 160 streetfighter concept has been shown so as to gauge the initial reaction of the Indonesian public towards such a design.
